World Toilet Day 2018: Why are toilets so important?
As part of UKS2’s project on water, we have been discussing the significance of water for our health and our hygiene.
The subject of toilets may make you laugh but take a second to think what life would be like without safe access to a toilet… The children in UKS2 have been thinking about it and unfortunately, it is a reality for 2.3 billion people around the globe. There are also 620 million children in the world who do not have access to school toilets!
The 19th November marks World Toilet Day and it is has been organised by the United Nations to raise awareness worldwide. They want to ensure everyone in the world has a safe toilet by 2030.
They have discussed what happens when we go to the toilet and what happens in countries where they do not have a toilet. We have also focused on germs, how they spread and what can spread as a result of uncleanliness. The key stage have carried out their own investigation on germs using paint and a football.
