Year 5 Maths

Year 5 have been learning many different things in multiplication and division this term. They have been introduced to new concepts and they have refreshed their memory with previously taught concepts too.

They have been:
-establishing whether a number up to 100 is prime and trying to recall prime numbers up to 19,
-multiplying numbers up to 4 digits by a one- or two-digit number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers,
-dividing numbers up to 4 digits by a one-digit number using the formal written method of short division and remainders,
-solving problems involving multiplication and division, including using their knowledge of factors and multiples, squares and cubes.
This week and last week, their focus has been on multiplying and dividing whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1,000. We now move on to fractions..
