At St. Vincent’s we offer a broad and balanced curriculum covering the statutory duties of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum for the Reception classes and the National Curriculum for Y1-Y6.
We firmly believe that in order for children to develop into happy, well-rounded adults they need to be provided with much more than just the objectives covered in the statutory curriculum.
Working closely with Westminster Diocese and with our Barnet Deanery we provide a grounding in our Catholic Faith, teaching and living out the stories of the Gospels through Religious Education and the celebration of our practices with our priests in the school parishes of Sacred Heart, Mill Hill and St. Anthony’s, Edgware. We also work in a local partnership with schools in the Mill Hill area (NW7P) where our children share faith practices and learn of other faiths together.
With Christ firmly placed at the centre of all we do at St. Vincent’s, we believe that the Catholic ethos of our school enables us to fulfil our duties in living and promoting British Values as one and the same as our Gospel and Vincentian values.
Our children are taught to understand these values and how they will underpin their lives, as proactive British Citizens upholding the values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance, emulating the example of Our Lord.
Our children have contributed to how our Vincentian Values are expressed and displayed across the school:
- We are compassionate, caring and loving.
- We are respectful of the dignity and wishes of the individual.
- We are stewards of the environment and of one another.
- We believe in practical hands-on hard work and we learn from our mistakes.
- We do not judge others.
- We build relationships based on trust.
Children learn best when they are actively engaged in their own learning, making choices and making mistakes, proving what is right and learning from what is wrong.
Our Project Based Learning approach is used wherever possible to create contextual links in children’s learning that have a real-life outcome to strive for.
Visit our class blogs via the Phase Groups menu at the top and the Project Based Learning pages for more information.
We are exceptionally fortunate at St. Vincent’s to have a wonderful physical environment to experience and explore. Every class has an outdoor space to work in, and not only do we have a forest for learning and a polytunnel for growing, we also have a wonderful new prayer garden, designed by our children, to experience the moments of peace and stillness they need during their busy days.
